Adele May Continue To Dominate The Pop Solo Performance Category

There’s no denying that Adele has established herself as a Grammy darling. With an impressive collection of 16 trophies won throughout her career, including wins in the coveted Record, Song, and Album of the Year categories, she stands apart from most other music stars. That said, her status as a champion doesn’t mean she won’t continue to receive nominations and potentially add more accolades to her already illustrious career.

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Adele was a contender for the top three prizes, as well as several others. While she walked away with just one win, securing the Best Pop Solo Performance award for her single “Easy on Me,” she remains a frontrunner for the upcoming ceremony. Her chances of either earning another nomination or even winning the trophy again are high.

This time around, Adele has only one eligible single. “I Drink Wine” was released as the final promotional cut from her most recent album 30, and it was promoted after the eligibility period for the 2024 Grammys began. Given Adele’s immense popularity and the adoration she’s been shown by Grammy voters, it seems highly likely that the song will secure a nomination.

If “I Drink Wine” indeed receives a nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance, it will mark Adele’s fifth nomination in this category. Currently, she is tied with Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande for the most nods in the field. Another nomination would give her the edge, unless some of these talented women also secure new nominations. Both Swift and Clarkson also have strong chances of earning opportunities to win, and there’s still plenty of time for more tracks to emerge as potential entrants.

Unlike the aforementioned stars, Adele has had a flawless track record when it comes to winning in this Grammy category. Each time she has been nominated, she has emerged as the victor. Songs like “Someone Like You,” “Set Fire to the Rain (Live),” “Hello,” and “Easy on Me” have all claimed the trophy. Given this history, one might assume that “I Drink Wine” is a likely champion. However, it’s worth noting that the song didn’t perform exceptionally well as a hit single, and it’s not remembered nearly as well as Adele’s others. While it’s too early to rule it out completely, it may not be the wisest choice to predict its victory just yet.
