A Meta(full) Future is Here to Enhance our Lives Not Replace It

A mere few decades ago, the Internet made its way into our lives – altering it significantly and revolutionizing the way we interact with one another. Social media subsequently lured many of us in, as if it had a life of its own, becoming an indispensable part of everyday functions. If history is any indication of what will become of us today, then Meta has certainly marked a milestone for mankind. It has skyrocketed to mainstream status, established itself as more than just a buzzword – it’s rather a phenomenon that could very well shape our future. Meta is here, and life will subsequently get Meta(full). Here’s how!

Metaverse to Takeover Several Activities

The metaverse may appear reliant on gaming elements, but the likes of Samsung, JPMorgan, and Atari recognize a much greater potential beyond that. Far from resigning its future to be a mere part of the gaming industry, these major influencers are investing effort and energy into exploring how this expanding domain might revolutionize the way in which we operate in years to come. Clearly, they understand that embracing the metaverse now is integral to preparing for any revolutionary changes which lie ahead. Roblox, currently the biggest metaverse platform, has 55+ Million users as per the latest data, we must not take this for granted.

Artists are using these platforms to showcase their talents in virtual worlds. For example, Travis Scott accrued over 12 Million users in his metaverse concert on Fortnite, generating around $20 Million in less than ten minutes. Likewise, Marshmello’s concert on the same platform amassed over 10 Million users in 2019.

Mark Zuckerberg believes that a majority of everything we see or do today will be possible in virtual spaces. According to data, the company has sold over 200 million units of Quest 2 headgear. They launched the Meta Quest Pro in 2022 but failed to gain the desired number of audience due to its hefty prices. But it may gain traction as soon as the company adjusts its value accordingly.

The Seoul government recently released a beta version of the “Seoul Metaverse” while the UAE is working on its Dubai Metaverse Strategy. They plan to generate 40,000 jobs by 2030 and aim to become one of the top ten global metaverse economies.

We still lack the technology required to enable the metaverse, but the tech giants are experimenting with augmented and virtual reality devices to offer immersive experiences to users. All of it may appear fancy today but these gadgets hold the potential to make several activities, from education to employment, more fun and productive.

Microsoft joined hands with Meta to integrate Office 365 for increased productivity in virtual spaces. The World Economic Forum believes that workers will be able to control repair robots from the safety of their desks using AR/VR technology. Moreover, online shopping will become immersive as people can visit virtual shops and put the desired item in a digital basket, later to be delivered at their doorstep.

The metaverse may not have taken a perfect shape for the mainstream audience yet, but a growing user base is proof that they understand its potential. As more metaverse tailored devices will enter the market, users are expected to rush into virtual spaces at mass.
