Twitter adds tips in Ethereum- The Cryptonomist

Yesterday, Twitter officially announced that it has added the possibility of receiving tips in Ethereum (ETH).

Twitter goes beyond Bitcoin: tips in Ethereum

After launching tips in Bitcoin (BTC) months ago, the famous social network has now also added the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency.

The curious thing is that while the CEO of the company was the famous co-founder Jack Dorsey, Twitter had only focused on Bitcoin

Dorsey is a de facto BTC maximalist, and it is likely that it was he who put the brakes on the possibility of adding support for altcoins.

A few weeks ago, after the change of CEO, the company decided to start working with Ethereum as well, making available the possibility of using NFTs as profile pictures. It was only a matter of time before ETH tips were added.

How do Tips work on Twitter

Tips is a function that allows users to add links to their profile to receive monetary donations using third-party payment services. In fact, those who click on the link are taken to services outside the platform through which donations can be sent in both fiat currency and cryptocurrencies. So far, only BTC and ETH are supported.

The company states

“With Tips, we’re creating an easy way to direct people to links to your payment profiles and we’re making it easier to support the people driving the conversation on Twitter – whether you want to support a content creator, help someone fundraise, tip someone who just needs some help or thank someone for making you laugh”.

The function is currently only active on the iOS and Android apps, and not on the web version of the site.

In order to add tips in ETH the user needs to go to the “Edit profile” section on the iOS or Android app, and then click on “Tips”. Once this feature is activated they can add their Bitcoin or Ethereum address (or both). This will add an icon next to the “Follow” button on your profile, allowing others to click and copy the addresses you’ve added to make donations using external wallets

Twitter does not retain any percentage of these donations.
