Nike, a well-known sneaker brand, dipped its toe in Metaverse after collaborating with RTFKT Studios, a company known for selling original digital sneakers as NFT assets. The outcome of the collaboration is as RTFKT announced Nike’s first NFT sneakers.
CryptoKicks, an RTFKT x Nike Dunk product, are digital wearables that are designed to be used in metaverse worlds. RTFKT first released the teaser of the sneakers on Twitter. The look of the digital sneakers can be changed through collectible “Skin Vials,” which can be swapped to embody different styles.
In February, the holders of earlier RTFKT NFTs, including RTFKT’s valuable CloneX profile picture NFTs got the free airdrops of RTFKT’s MNLTH Ethereum NFTs; these NFTs will help to open the Nike’s first CryptoKicks.
An NFT can be anything that certifies ownership over digital assets, such as artwork, game items, artwork, or literally anything.
The announcement today came after a series of quests or puzzles that collectors were supposed to solve before RTFKT launched the website that allows holders to open the mysterious NFT vaults. The MNLTH vaults include a single Skin Vial, a pair of CryptoKicks, and a second MNLTH vault, as shared by some holders on social media.
According to an official FAQ on the RTFKT Discord server, the firm will launch a quest series to unlock the MNLTH 2 vaults later this year. Each pair of CryptoKicks will also feature an “evolution path” that enables them to be evolved in some way.
Owners of CryptoKicks NFTs, the RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis, are trying to resell the Ethereum-based digital sneakers on secondary markets. At the time of writing, the sneakers were being sold at 5 ETH, or over $14,800.
Nike was declared patent for CryptoKicks in December 2019. CryptoKicks is a blockchain-powered system in which crypto assets are paired with a physical product.
The new iteration of CryptoKicks has taken a different approach, however. It is described as “the revival of Nike CryptoKicks by RTFKT, starting with Evolutive skins,” by RTFKT’s Discord FAQ.
