Now you can now search ETH addresses on Google

Some Ethereum wallet addresses can have their Ether balances tracked directly from the Google search engine thanks to the most recent crypto feature.

This eliminates the need to visit Etherscan. Han Hua, the principal of Google Ventures, first made the feature public in a tweet on October 11.

However, when Cointelegraph attempted to search Google for a Bitcoin address, no results were returned. Stephen Cole, an angel investor, was dissatisfied, tweeting, “Does Google not know about Bitcoin?”

Additionally, Cointelegraph tried a number of different Ethereum addresses, but not all of them worked. As a result, the functionality is currently very limited but may develop over time.

Despite this, recent efforts suggest that Google is crucial in introducing Internet users to Web3 and blockchain-based services.

As both commercial banks and Web2 companies continue to do an enormous amount of work in the background, Markus Thielen, a chief investment officer of digital asset services platform Matrixport, stated in an interview with Cointelegraph, they shouldn’t be surprised by Google’s efforts in the Web3 space.

However, Thielen believes that a mass adoption event for Web3 could come when the iPhone can be used as a crypto wallet. He added that the crypto industry will go from 100 miles per hour to 250 miles in a heartbeat if and when this happens.

Reaction from the community

According to Developer Relations Manager Vittorio Rivabella of Web3 development platform Alchemy, the announcement of Google’s new Ethereum address search feature was “Bullish.”

SadPanda.blockchain, on the other hand, is the former Web3ArtBlog editor-in-chief.

The news disappointed the NFT, who asserted that Google “will sell our blockchain data to advertisers in order to target us via our wallets!”

In addition to the partnership that Google formed with the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase on October 11 to enable its customers to pay for cloud services in cryptocurrency, the new feature is expected to become available in early 2023.

By embedding a countdown ticker until the point at which Ethereum switched from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake (PoS), Google also capitalized on the hype surrounding the Ethereum Merge.
