Undoubtedly crypto operations like mining consume a lot of energy  while residual produce enormous heat; both possess threats to the environment that many officials take into consideration

On Wednesday, 20th April 2022, over 20 Democrats from the House of  Representatives in the United States have proposed calling for the Environmental Protection Agency. The invocation for EPA demands for probing crypto mining facilities across the United States region regarding environmental threats.

These lawmakers have  sent a letter to the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Michael S. Regan requested that the agency ensure the crypto mining facilities are not violating any fundamental environmental regimes like the Clean Water Act or the  Clean Air Act. The legislators are having some serious concerns over the crypto mining operations considering them as polluting communities all over the  country and that they emit a large amount of greenhouse gasses.

The letter outlined the legislatives requesting that the Environmental Protection Agency to evaluate the mining facilities of Proof of Work cryptocurrencies that comply with the statutes of the environment such as Clean Water Act or Clean Air Act. It also mentioned urging the agency for engaging in the review of their permits. Further, the letter also asked that the environmental agency investigate and address any harm such existing proof of work facilities cause to the communities including, although not limiting, to ensure that electronic waste is disposed of responsibly and noise pollution is abated completely.

Chairperson of Natural Resource Water, Oceans and Wildlife Subcommittee, Jared Huffman who is also known to be Californian Democrat is witnessed leading the efforts towards probing the crypto mining facilities. Other high-profile democrat representatives including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, vocal critic of crypto Californian Democrat Brad Sherman, and Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib also signed on the letter.

It’s notable that the democratic have gained their image to be skeptical and critical on cryptocurrencies and digital assets. Their main concern brought about cryptocurrencies as their threat on the economy due to volatility and such character while they consider it as a threat for the environment because of their energy consumption and energy release.
