In addition to various ventures across industries, fitness ventures like Gym Clubs are diving into crypto, launching crypto payments acceptance.
Equinox Luxury fitness club in New York will begin to take payments in
cryptocurrencies for its various gym services. An anonymous source mentioned in the report that it would make the gym the first of its own in the city to deploy a digital currency payments regime in its business. Further, it was revealed that for new infrastructure crypto payments services, the fitness company would partner with BitPay.
However, the official announcement by Equinox stated that the decision on crypto payments is still pending, where it is assumed to be in line with the goal of fitness companies to avail services both physically and digitally for its members. Various such walk-in businesses, including gyms, have seen a huge hit in their sales during the economic downturn after the pandemic where though gradual recovery was present.
Equinox Luxury fitness club itself reported a surge of about 122% in its first-quarter sales of 2022 compared to the 2019 first quarter. With its services starting from $250 and its all-new crypto payments scheme, Equinox is expecting an even better term of sales this quarter, as per the reports.
A number of such companies, organizations, institutes, and even cities have started to accept crypto payments with the massive growth that the cryptocurrency industry has experienced in the last several years. Recent examples of such ventures include Media Markt, a European electronic retailer giant, and On The Run, the Australian convenience store chain.
American multinational e-commerce corporation eBay has also dipped into the notion of allowing crypto payments. The company’s CEO has hinted that the company also wants to work with younger generations, and allowing crypto payments could be one such way.
The Brazilian Capital, Rio de Janeiro, also wants to take part in this ongoing trend. In late March, reports emerged claiming that the city has aimed to become the first in the country to allow paying taxes in crypto for its citizens. This came into existence after speculating that Brazil would adopt new regulations on the crypto industry.
