JPMorgan Looks To Hire Crypto, Metaverse Specialist

American banking giant, JPMorgan Chase, is looking to appoint a new Vice President (VP) and Payments Business Development Manager to join its Technology, Media, and Telecom West Coast Payments Team to be part of the Web3.0, Crypto, Fintech, and Metaverse division.

According to a job offer posted on LinkedIn, JPMorgan seeks to appoint a “curious and dynamic” leader who could guide the company’s operations in “this sea of technological change.” The bank specified that the individual should have the necessary technical know-how and be ready to collaborate with financial regulators and emerging entities in this niche industry.

Specifically, this individual will lead proactive prospect and client engagement, collaborate with multiple internal partners, and develop solutions to meet the strategic and complex needs of our corporate clients.

Other responsibilities of this position include to “identify and win new payments opportunities in the Web 3, Crypto, Fintech, & Metaverse industry subvertical.” Applicants will also have to analyze clients’ operational structure and understand the customers’ cryptocurrency targets. Further duties of the new hire include being responsible for organizing and arranging new corporate clients for a suite of payment products, including transactional FX, liquidity and treasury services, and escrow. The bank also states that there is no industry playbook for these areas yet. Hence, the new hire must be comfortable paving a path, creating frameworks, and working with extremely fast pacing companies amidst ambiguity.

Given the vast amount of pressure associated with this role, JPMorgan explained that only individuals with at least five years’ experience in a financial services role could fit for the role, and those who have worked in the banking industry before will be “strongly preferred.”

While the company has been predominantly negative towards cryptocurrencies, this is not the case when speaking about the metaverse. In February this year, JPMorgan released a report in which it predicted that the integrated network of 3D virtual worlds could become a trillion-dollar industry over the next few years.
