Grayscale Investments Backed Survey Brought Political Take on Crypto

On 1st November 2022, renowned crypto asset management firm Grayscale Investment released findings of a survey. The Harris Poll conducted a survey on behalf of Grayscale intending to find out the perception of people in America towards the economy and crypto, given the United States 2022 elections. 

The survey of 2,000 Americans between 6th to 11th October 2022 brought up several interesting pieces of information. Participants were of age more than 18 and the other classifications include age, gender and race also to specifically figure out their representation across the overall population. 

Over half of the people participating in the survey, about 53%, were in support of the notion that “cryptocurrencies are the future of finance. This includes people from political interests, both Democrats and Republicans, with 59% and 52% of them agreeing to the same respectively. 

In addition, approx half (49%) of the people surveyed agreed with their familiarity with crypto assets. The survey noted while considering several previous polls also that the young generation is relatively more interested within the emerging markets. In terms of numbers, this counts about 70% of people aged between 18 to 34 while 62% between the ages of 35 to 44 years. 

Since the survey also diversified on the basis of race to figure out the minority status, the approach enlightened with a newer angle. Black and Hispanic Americans hold more crypto awareness than White Americans where the former were 60% and 62% while the latter were 42%. 

The findings noted about 34% of Blacks, 32% of Hispanics and 37% people under the age of 45 years cited inflation and beleaguered economic situations which arouse their interest in crypto assets. More or less a similar fraction of people agreed to hold crypto assets. 

Since the survey was mainly to find out crypto interests against the backdrop of election and it found the views of both Democrats and Republicans overlaid. About 77% Republicans and 88% Democrats had a similar take on clear and accessible crypto regulations. While people from both political aisles voiced for a regulatory approach prioritizing consumers first. 

Democrats and Republicans held different views towards crypto, with completely opposite stances sometimes. 

Republicans were among the supporters of emerging technology and new investment asset classes. They have been making efforts to make the industry grow and evolve with lighter and supporting regulations. While Democrats being at the opposite side were always seen to prioritize consumer protection over the development of crypto. They also voice the concerns around consumer protection, impact on environment and potential use of assets for illicit activities.
