A disruption awaits the blockchain gaming field. The popularity of blockchain gaming reached its peak last year. This year many successful games are now addressing concerns regarding sustainability. The big players are now prioritizing graphics, storytelling, and gameplay in an effort to remain gamers. The transition to Play-and-Earn from Play-to-Earn is an indication of the growth of the blockchain space. Last year had witnessed sheer madness and also showed concerns about the future of games that do not seem to focus on desirability, playability, and fun.
Meanwhile, the games that are entering the blockchain world now need to know that if their priority is offering a great gaming experience, they would go a long way.
As of now, blockchain has disrupted the gaming industry by rewarding people in return for in-game progression. During the pandemic these Play-to-earn games peaked in popularity, bringing the revolution in the Pay-to-Play model. There is no doubt that blockchain will continue to rule the video gaming industry, but what could the future look like in blockchain gaming. Let’s see!
Forbes says Play-to-Earn games are making billions of dollars via transactions involving NFTs.
For instance, Sky Mavis’ popular game Axie Infinity caters to around 2.5 million daily active users. Axie reached 1 billion USD in sales as of August 2021, becoming the first Ethereum-based game to do so. Following the huge success of Axie, every possible Play-to-Earn game could be found in the market.
The hype that began in the pandemic continues to this year, however, many games are concerned about sustainability and exploring ways for ensuring their longevity. Axie Infinity is also among these players and is looking to make changes to enhance graphics and gameplay. The big players in the Play-to-Earn field are concerned about the potential criticism due to its drawbacks. Blockchain gaming itself has a long way to go but the games that ignore the basics and only prioritize remuneration can not survive for long. Only the quality game will go forward as the blockchain gaming market matures. Now, basic clipart with a token on the side wouldn’t do. Gamers want to play and earn.
Now the question arises: What makes a game a good Play-and-Earn game?
The answer lies in the successful traditional games, all the basics aspects such as graphics, gameplay, and lore are what still attract the players the most and encourages them to invest in them. However, it doesn’t mean that new avenues that the blockchain technology offers for creating valued digital assets, should be neglected.
