RippleX Warn Blockchain Networks May Need Quantum Safeguard

  • RippleX says quantum threats may demand stronger blockchain safeguards before 2030.
  • Ayo Akinyele warns that quantum readiness could bring major infrastructure changes soon.
  • XRPL planning includes migration talks, foundation checks, and institutional DeFi needs.

RippleX is sharpening its quantum-readiness plans as Ayo Akinyele warns that the crypto industry may not have until 2030. The RippleX Head of Engineering said blockchain networks may need stronger safeguards within the next few years.

Akinyele said the 2030 timeline has long guided industry planning. It was treated as the target for networks to adopt quantum-safe cryptography. Google-linked work on Shor’s algorithm has raised concerns that preparation may need to move faster.

RippleX Prepares for Quantum Security Shift

Shor’s algorithm is important because it is tied to the risk of breaking classical public key cryptography. That cryptography remains central to blockchain security today.

“We can’t necessarily wait until 2030,” Akinyele said in an interview. He said teams need to be ready in the next couple of years in case technology advances faster than migration efforts.

He also said contingency plans are needed. The goal is to avoid a situation where quantum progress outpaces the ability of networks to respond.

Akinyele described the task as much larger than a normal upgrade. He said quantum readiness would affect the way infrastructure operates across the industry.

Akinyele said the shift would not work like a standard software upgrade. Quantum readiness, he explained, would bring a major infrastructure change. He also noted that if quantum hardware breaks classical cryptography, it may arrive without public warning.

However, RippleX has published a roadmap that reflects its goal of becoming quantum-ready. The team is also speaking with developers working on quantum-safe signature schemes.

XRPL Migration Path Moves Into Focus

Several teams have approached RippleX to explore possible integration with the XRP Ledger’s migration path. Akinyele also confirmed contact with the Ethereum Foundation. He said the foundation expressed confidence that Ethereum would be ready for the shift.

RippleX is now in active discussions with Ripple. The aim is to ensure the XRP Ledger can reach the same level of preparation.

“This year is all about addressing the foundation,” Akinyele said. He pointed to old bugs being found in Linux kernels as a reason to inspect deeper infrastructure weaknesses.

Akinyele said this is the time to look for cracks in the XRPL foundation. In his view, those findings should help guide the next stage of the architecture.

However, RLUSD is being used as a foundational layer in that work. These systems are tied to institutional DeFi, where reliability, security, and deterministic settlement carry greater importance.
