Fox Corporation partners with Polygon to launch content authenticity tool

Media powerhouse Fox Corporation has announced an innovative partnership with Polygon, a leading blockchain platform, to develop a new technology aimed at combating the spread of misinformation and forged content online.

The new tool called Verify will allow media companies like Fox to permanently register their published articles, images, videos and other content on the Polygon blockchain. This creates a public, immutable record of that content’s origin and history.

Verify will be released as an open-source protocol, meaning any media outlet or platform can adopt it. For consumers, Verify will be accessible via browser extensions and mobile apps that check whether a given piece of content encountered online has been cryptographically signed and verified through Polygon.

This gives readers, viewers and social media users a reliable way to confirm whether content is authentic, or if it could be an AI-generated deepfake or other kind of forgery designed to misinform and deceive.

Furthermore, Verify is being developed by Fox’s own technology team, led by CTO Melody Hildebrandt, and has praised Polygon for its “cutting-edge technology” and called the partnership an important step in addressing the growing scourge of synthetic, fake content enabled by advances in AI.

Polygon’s co-founder Sandeep Nailwal also expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying that it is a “an important tool for helping consumers identify when something was generated by AI and when it comes from an actual media company”.

Polygon (MATIC) price action

This recent announcement of the partnership with Fox follows a boost in the price of Polygon’s native token, MATIC, which has increased by 14.61% in the last five days and reached $0.85 at the time of writing this article.

MATIC is currently the 15th largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, with a value of over $6.81 billion. The token has also outperformed the broader crypto market, which has been experiencing a correction after reaching new highs in late December 2023.
