Algorand Partners with United Nations Development Program to Educate UN Employees on Blockchain

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has set its sights on the future by partnering with Algorand Foundation to launch a  blockchain academy. The plan is to provide education about blockchain technology to 22,000 employees across 170 countries. The UNDP is seeking to empower global changemakers with the tools and knowledge necessary to further sustainable development goals using innovative decentralized technologies.

Forging understanding through education

The Algorand Blockchain Academy was announced at the Algorand Impact Summit in New Delhi and aims to bolster UNDP’s efforts by educating employees about the advantages of blockchain technology. According to expert Robert Pasicko, the program will be “instrumental” in equipping teams to address complex worldwide problems through blockchain. Starting in early 2024, the curriculum will include recorded lectures, hands-on workshops, and assignments made accessible to UNDP and broader UN staff.

Areas of focus include utilizing blockchain to expand “a critical first step” towards harnessing real-world use cases that achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

A pioneering partnership

In partnering with Algorand, the UNDP recognizes the need to pioneer an understanding of emerging technologies that can transform society for the better. With over 20,000 employees operating in every corner of the globe, the UNDP’s embrace of blockchain education could create ripple effects felt around the world. A beta rollout will begin next quarter, and full implementation of the blockchain academy will continue throughout 2024.
