Oldest Renewable Energy Source in America saved by BTC Miners

  • Bitcoin (BTC) and its hash mining are widely criticized
  • BTC Price at the time of writing – $20,753.23
  • United States listed Kazakhstan, and Pakistan as some exotic destinations for mining

Despite the widespread criticism of Bitcoin (BTC) and its hash mining for alleged environmental harm, the largest cryptocurrency has at least once saved an outstanding renewable energy source.

Bitcoin (BTC) miners made the first decision in 2021 to renovate the technical equipment of the Mechanicville Hydroelectric Plant, one of the world’s oldest and oldest plants of its kind.

The Hudson River power transmission company built and opened this plant in 1897, as stated by the Global Energy Monitor project.

The main building was put on the list for the National Register of Historic Places in the United States. However, this 4 MW plant was rapidly approaching retirement.

However, its operator, Albany Engineering Corporation, made the decision to concentrate on Bitcoin (BTC) mining a year ago.

Profitability increased by 200%

AEC’s CEO, Jim Besha, stated in a statement that the plant’s Bitcoin (BTC) mining equipment was all purchased secondhand.

It should be noted that the Mechanicville Hydroelectric Plant was converted into a Bitcoin (BTC) mining center amid a large exodus of Chinese miners triggered by an anti-crypto witch hunt.

Chinese authorities cracked down on Bitcoin (BTC) miners in the second quarter of 2021:The majority of them relocated their equipment abroad. Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and other exotic locations were listed as the top destinations for those miners by the United States.

Consumption of Bitcoin Energy

Consumption of energy and individual contributors to climate change have piqued consumers’ interest over recent decades.

When news reports began to circulate about the possibility of negative effects, many people expressed their disapproval of Bitcoin’s energy consumption and became concerned about the currency.

Each Bitcoin transaction consumes 1,173 KW hours of electricity, or enough to “power the typical American home for six weeks,” according to a report.”A different report states that the annual energy consumption of Bitcoin is greater than the daily energy consumption of 5.5 million people in Finland.

Politicians, tech entrepreneurs, and environmentalists have all commented on the news.Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, even made the announcement in May 2021 that Tesla would no longer accept cryptocurrency as payment due to environmental concerns.

Bitcoin is heavily dependent on renewable energy sources for miners because, according to estimates, its use of renewable energy currently ranges from 40% to 75%.

However, critics have argued that increasing Bitcoin’s use of renewable energy will reduce the amount of solar energy used to power other sectors and industries like factories, homes, and hospitals up until this point.

The Bitcoin mining region also confirms that the expansion of mining can contribute to the development of new solar and wind ranches going forward.
