If your L2 project doesn’t cut the mustard according to their newly minted standards, don’t expect any airtime on their platform.
Ever since Bitcoin decided to strut its stuff beyond the mundane transactions and prove that it could handle complex scripts with the advent of the Ordinals protocol and the BitVM white paper back in 2023, the game has undoubtedly changed. The once-underestimated Bitcoin script is now a beacon of hope, showing the world that Bitcoin is a powerhouse ready to take on demands from across the blockchain spectrum.
To get the nod from Bitcoin Magazine, your L2 project better be using Bitcoin as its native asset and as a settlement mechanism to enforce transactions. Plus, if your project could technically survive a Bitcoin apocalypse and keep ticking, then sorry, but you’re not really an L2 in the eyes of Bitcoin Magazine.
Now, don’t get it twisted; Bitcoin Magazine isn’t putting on blinders and ignoring everything that doesn’t fit into their L2 box. They’re still keeping an eye on meta protocols like Counterparty and the fascinating world of Ordinals, which have found a way to coexist and thrive atop Bitcoin’s base layer without veering off into the land of separate blockchains. And then there are the so-called ‘parasite’ layers, dependent on Bitcoin yet not meeting the full criteria to be dubbed an L2. It’s a no-go for coverage on these, at least for now.
And before anyone starts crying foul or claiming bias, this policy is strictly for BitcoinMagazine.com and its print publication. The Bitcoin Conference, Rare BTC, or UTXO Management aren’t roped into this policy, so there’s still room for these entities to explore and engage with the wider Bitcoin L2 scene.
