Bernstein: Quantum Threat Does Not Shake BTC Security

According to Bernstein’s new research report, advances in quantum computer technology could pose a long-term threat to Bitcoin (BTC)’s cryptographic security, but this risk is manageable and does not constitute an existential danger. The report describes quantum computing as a “manageable upgrade cycle.”

Bitcoin Quantum Threat: Manageable Risks

Google’s recent research accelerates the timeline by reducing encryption-breaking resources, but powerful quantum computers that could endanger BTC are years away due to technical barriers and high costs. Bernstein estimates that the crypto sector has about 3-5 years of preparation time to transition to quantum-resistant standards. This transition will be carried out by Bitcoin’s open-source developer community through protocol upgrades.

  • Most Vulnerable Addresses: P2PK, P2MS, and P2TR types (approximately 1.7 million BTC at risk, 1.1 million belonging to Satoshi).
  • Resistant Area: SHA-256 hashing (mining security) is robust against quantum attacks.

BTC Price and Technical Analysis: Strong Supports

As of April 23, 2026, BTC price is $77,599 (-0.58% 24h). RSI 64.44 (neutral), EMA 20: $74,082. Critical supports: S1 $74,401 (strong, 77% score), S2 $60,000. Resistances: R1 $79,044 (84% score). These confidence-boosting reports support BTC futures.

Bitcoin ETF Flows: Positive Momentum

On April 22, BTC ETFs saw $335.8 million in net inflows, ETH ETFs $96.4 million. These flows reflect institutional confidence despite quantum concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Bitcoin Quantum Threat

  • When will BTC be broken by quantum? Experts say 10 years, transition completed in 3-5 years.
  • Which BTCs are at risk? Old P2PK/P2MS/P2TR addresses worth 1.7M BTC.
  • Will mining be affected? No, SHA-256 is resistant.
