Sunday, March 27
- No. 1 Kansas (-6) vs. No. 10 Miami: 2:20 pm ET (CBS)
- No. 8 North Carolina (-8.5) vs. No. 15 Saint Peter’s: 5:05 pm ET (CBS)
Ever since they narrowly slipped past USC in the opener, the Hurricanes have looked like one of the most dominant programs in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Miami obliterated No. 2 Auburn in the Round of 32 and followed that up in the Sweet 16 by thoroughly routing No. 11 Iowa State to reach this point.
Miami’s past two opponents have only connected on a combined nine of 48 (18.8 percent) three-point attempts and have scored an average of just 58.5 points compared to the Hurricanes’ 74.5-point average in that span.
Kansas is still the favorite to make the Final Four, however. The Jayhawks—the last remaining No. 1 seed on the bracket—may face their toughest test yet in the Elite 8 against an athletic and defensively-locked in Hurricanes squad.
KU breezed into the Sweet 16 by knocking out Texas Southern and Creighton but looked beatable earlier in the week, besting a Providence squad that only shot 33.8 percent from the field and 17.4 percent from three-point range by a five-point margin.
Villanova will be watching and awaiting the winner of this matchup. The Wildcats headed to the Big Easy and back in the Final Four after taking care of Houston yesterday.
Saint Peter’s has become the darling of the 2022 NCAA Tournament by defying seemingly insurmountable odds. The team busted nearly every bracket when it toppled blue-blooded Kentucky—a veteran-laden No. 2 seed and popular pick to make the Final Four this year—on the first day of March Madness and hasn’t slowed down since.
The Peacocks joined Oral Roberts and Florida Gulf Coast as the only No. 15 seeds to reach the second week of the NCAA Tournament when it bested No. 10 Murray State in the second round. After stunning Purdue in the Sweet 16, Saint Peter’s made history by becoming the only team ever seeded No. 13 or higher to reach the Elite Eight.
They’ll be underdogs for the fourth consecutive time in the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening, this time against a North Carolina foe that has also made a rather unexpected surge to the regional finale.
UNC had a tough road to reach this point as a No. 8 seed. The Tar Heels demolished Marquette in the Round of 64 before dethroning Baylor—the defending March Madness champions—in the second round.
North Carolina usurped another reigning Final Four squad in UCLA on Friday. The squad is now one game away from reaching the Final Four for the first time since winning it all a half-decade ago.
The winner of Saint Peter’s-UNC will head to New Orleans, where they will face Duke in the Final Four on Saturday with a trip to the national championship game on the line.
