Walmart launches its new virtual fitting rooms

Walmart, one of the most famous American multinational retail companies, has introduced virtual fitting rooms.

This news indicates how much technological progress, the development of the widely cited Web 3.0 is, in this case, real, consistent and, dare I say it, even imminent.

Walmart: a better online shopping experience

Walmart, the retail giant, started working on this project last year, deciding to buy virtual fitting room startup Zeekit.

Today, after months of work, the multinational company can finally offer its customers a unique and significantly better online shopping experience.

At the moment, the new feature is only available for iOS users on the Walmart app.

This upgrade allows customers to see directly from their home how the garments look on their bodies.

Most skeptics will say that nothing can compete with a fitting done in person.

How can you blame them.

Touching the material of the garment we are interested in, figuring out where it does not fit us perfectly, is definitely something that cannot be, for now, reproduced virtually.

That said, it is also necessary to point out that these kinds of achievements were on par with science fiction tales only 30 years ago.

So they deserve their share of glory and attention.

“Be Your Own Model”

Walmart has been reaching this milestone progressively.

In March it unveiled its “Choose My Model” technology, which allowed customers to choose from 50 models of different sizes to see how clothes fit a body similar to their own.

And now, the next phase called – “Be Your Own Model”, has been launched, in which users can virtually try on more than 270,000 items on their own bodies.

The only caveat: underwear or tight-fitting clothing will have to be removed in order for the function to be as accurate as possible.

Also, not to be forgotten, “Be Your Own Model” uses algorithms and machine learning to simulate an increasingly realistic fit.

Statements from the Executive Vice President

Denise Incandela, Walmart’s Executive Vice President for Apparel, said:

“This experience allows customers to use their own photo to better visualize how clothing will look on them, and creates a gamification of shopping that we believe will be very compelling to the customer.

Walmart is the first to offer a virtual try-on experience for apparel brands at scale, and it’s the most realistic application I have seen.”
