Tech Blogger Reveals Twitter Is Integrating with Signal Protocol on Encrypted DMs

Since Elon Musk took over the social networking company, there have been changes of all sorts. Also, the billionaire gave a hint that Twitter 2.0 would include an encrypted private messaging feature.

According to Popular tech blogger Jane Manchun Wong, Twitter is integrating Signal Protocol to bring back encrypted direct messages (DMs). The tech blogger took to Twitter to share some screenshots of the code for the Twitter iOS app. The images show the code referencing Signal Protocol, which is also being worked on Twitter’s android app. She wrote:

“Twitter will adopt the Signal Protocol for Encrypted DMs. Seeing code preferences of the Signal Protocol inside Twitter’s iOS app.”

Twitter to Integrate Signal Protocol

Twitter integrating Signal Protocol will not be much of a surprise, considering the restructuring and reformation that has been going on with the company. Since Elon Musk took over the social networking company, there have been changes of all sorts. Also, the billionaire gave a hint that Twitter 2.0 would include an encrypted private messaging feature. Musk rolled out in-office requirements for employees not long ago towards Twitter 2.0. He also warned that managers who permit remote working would be fired, except the employees are “exceptional.” Musk further highlighted plans for Twitter 2.0, beyond the encrypted DMs in integration with Signal Protocol.

The plans include Advertising as Entertainment, Long Reform Tweets, Relaunch of Blue Verified, lower hate speech impression, and Payments. Notably, hate speech impressions reduced as of 13th November, compared to October 2021. In addition to the plan is new user signups on the social media platform. The CEO said new user signups are at an ATH as the company has recorded an average of 2 million new daily user signups in the past seven days, as of 16th November. The figures represented a 66% spike compared to the same week in 2021.

Furthermore, Musk said user daily active minutes had peaked at around 8 billion daily over the past week as of 15th November. Just as the new signups exceeded the previous year’s metrics, active minutes per day are up 30% compared to the same week in 2021. However, there were high numbers of reported impersonations on Twitter earlier in the month, following the announcements of the Twitter Blue launch.

Twitter- The Everything App

Before the news on the integration with Signal Protocol, Musk referred to Twitter as “The Everything App.” He also said that he could see the social media app recording a million monthly users in the future.

“I think I see a path to Twitter exceeding a billion monthly users in 12 to 18 months.”

In the midst of the significant restructuring in Twitter, advertisers are retreating and pausing advertising on the platform. These top advertisers include General Motors (NYSE: GM), Volkswagen AG, and Mondelez International. The new CEO also confirmed that the platform is experiencing a drop in revenue due to the challenges.
