Shiba Inu Lead Developer Hints at Shiba Eternity Integration With MetaMask

It is unclear when the blockchain version of the card collection game will launch as the community still awaits the launch of Shibarium.

Shiba Inu lead developer Shytoshi Kusama has drawn attention to a new MetaMask feature that would allow gamers to interact with Web 3-enabled features directly from the wallet.

Kusama did this in a tweet yesterday, quoting a MetaMask thread. In the thread, MetaMask noted that this capability comes as Unity has listed the MetaMask Software Development Kit (SDK) on its Asset store, allowing developers to connect their games to the crypto wallet. Notably, ConsenSys, the creator of the crypto wallet, also announced the successful listing yesterday.

The crypto wallet has asserted that its listing will usher in Web 3 values and self-custody capabilities to the gaming industry. Consequently, it has also announced the launch of an early adopter program for game developers, offering $100,000 grants to developers looking to transition to Web 3. The program dubbed Sidequest will cover three themes:

  • Improving gameplay with NFTs
  • Revolutionizing in-game identity with NFT avatars and on-chain authentication
  • Ownership in in-game economies

Implications For Shiba Eternity?

It is worth noting that last year, the Shiba Inu ecosystem launched Shiba Eternity, a card collection game for mobile. As highlighted in previous reports, developers are working on a blockchain version of the game which will run on Shibarium, the ecosystem’s proposed Layer 2 protocol.

By drawing attention to the latest announcement by MetaMask, Kusama may be hinting at the opportunity of a future game integration with the popular crypto wallet to drive adoption. MetaMask is the most popular Ethereum crypto wallet, with over 30 million monthly users.

However, it is unclear when such an integration would be possible as the Shibarium protocol is yet to launch, despite confirmation from Kusama that the beta version could launch last week.

Developers continue improving the game’s mobile version, sending updates almost monthly. With over 250k downloads on iOS and Android, it boasts a 4.8 and 4.7-star rating, respectively.
