Yuga Labs, known for producing popular NFT collections like the Bored Ape Yacht Club and the Mutant Ape Yacht Club, has been receiving a lot of media attention. The latest came from one of its co-founders, Wylie Aronow, who announced his departure from the company’s day-to-day operations through Twitter.
Wylie said on Twitter that he was diagnosed with congestive heart disease and was leaving his position with the firm. While he will continue to serve as a board member and strategic adviser for Yuga Labs. He will no longer be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the business.
Desperately in Need of a Break
The NFT entrepreneur said that he had worked nonstop for 12 hours a day for weeks. In an attempt to get financial backing for his venture. He had spent most of his twenties in bed with a debilitating illness. His exit follows a period of falling NFT prices. And a broader trend of falling cryptocurrency prices after the crash of FTX and 3AC.
Wylie said his health problem was progressing quite rapidly, meaning he didn’t have much longer to make significant adjustments to his current way of living. He continued by saying that his symptoms were still mild.
In recent court docs, Yuga Labs goes to great lengths to defend the copyright status of its famed Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs. Conceptual artist Ryder Ripps of Los Angeles was sued by Yuga Labs last year for trademark infringement. The firm claimed Ripps was “trolling” it by creating a group of Bored Ape knockoffs.
