An XRP community member has sounded an alarm against an ongoing deep fake scam featuring Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
The community member @RepeatAfterVee called attention to the scam, highlighting that the scam video message often appears before and after her YouTube Channel. The alarm came as one of the many featuring deep fake scams plaguing the XRP ecosystem at the moment.
For educational purposes, deep fake scams feature the digital alteration of the facial expression of an individual to mimic someone else in a hyper-realistic manner. The intent of deep fakes is simple: to harm their target audience.
Deep Fakes Promoting “Too Good to be True” Offers
According to Vee, the deep fakes swarming her content on YouTube contain a video message from Garlinghouse requesting XRP holders to send 1,000 XRP for a chance to get 2,000 XRP. This individual allocation comes from a pool of 100 million XRP giveaways as unveiled by the phony personality in the message. According to the statement, this giveaway is the company’s way of appreciating the community for standing by it through its long legal ordeal.
⚠️ WARNING to viewers of my YT channel.
I just found out that a SCAM Ripple ad is appearing BEFORE and AFTER my videos, featuring their CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
It’s a deep fake video where “Brad” says he’ll send you 2000 XRP if you send him 1000 XRP (double the amount you send… pic.twitter.com/mobYhizkyg

While this “too-good-to-be-true” scam model is not new, adopting deep fakes to sell the lie is relatively new.
The XRP community is particularly prone to these attacks, and Brad Garlinghouse, among other executives of Ripple Labs, is the favorite figure to impersonate. An earlier report shows that scammers asked members of the XRP community to send between 1,000 and 50,000 XRP for a chance to get a doubled sum within 24 hours.
Recently, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse voiced concerns over the rise of deep fake scam videos on YouTube targeting the XRP community.
While not oblivious to what is happening, Ripple executives and other industry partners like Ledger have also joined the call against these unwholesome fraudulent practices.
Safety Tips for XRP Holders
In one of the awareness messages, Ripple advised community members to verify all information regarding the company or any of its operations on the official social media handles or company announcement channels.
One of the key takeaways from the company’s caution is that, any suspicion for a deal or offer that appears to be too good to be true is probably a valid one.
