According to a recent report by Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart, the approval timeline for altcoin ETFs, including SOL, XRP, LTC, and HBAR, may extend to late 2025. This extension arises from the absence of a CME-regulated futures market for these altcoins, which contrasts sharply with the established approval for Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. Despite notable progress, firms like WisdomTree and 21Shares face hurdles with their XRP ETF applications, as existing regulatory frameworks impose restrictions until critical issues related to market manipulation and custody compliance are adequately addressed. Furthermore, Seyffart suggests that the leadership shift at the SEC in 2025 might encourage a more accommodating stance towards cryptocurrencies, potentially paving the way for ETF products to incorporate staking functionalities.
