Web 3.0 Professions: how to make career and profits in the Metaverse

Further development of various technologies will undoubtedly make many traditional professions obsolete. New technologies dictate new forms of occupation, require new skills and open more doors for success.

If stuffy offices and grumpy Mondays are not for you, the MetaFi sector is exactly at the point of making the dreams of its first citizens come true. Let’s dive deeper into such questions as how to be among the first to get a seat at the table, choose the right metaverse, where to acquire skills for the professions of the future, and how to guarantee passive and active ways of income this May.

Will automation and AI make us unemployed and what Web 3.0 brings us

Alarmists often state that AI and robots will soon cause mass unemployment. McKinsey research has shown that over 800 million will lose their jobs to automation by 2030. Indeed, such professions like assistant, travel agent, waiter, system administrator, or bank clerk will, most probably, cease to exist.

But instead of making us unemployed, according to Atlas of Emerging Jobs, such professions will give way to 188 new types of occupations by 2030, among which there are:

  • Game master, a creator of education games
  • Game practitioner, a creator of game universes
  • Augmented reality area designer
  • Virtual world designer, etc.

But while experts make prognosis, the industry is already full of vacancies that would have been hard to imagine a couple of years ago. Already now, companies are looking for NFT designers, Metaverse safety specialists, Metaverse world builders etc. For example, in 2021, Meta (formerly known as Facebook), announced that the company will hire around 10 000 specialists for its metaverse project.

Such numbers come as no surprise. The game-changing technologies formed new occupations. For example, the DeFi sector helped to create a variety of financial assets that function in an absolutely different environment, in contrast with traditional financial assets. Copyright laws might also be changed with the NFT emergence. It is only logical that companies would require so-called metaverse lawyers who might advise on the rules that apply in the given metaverse.

By applying the through experiment method, we might come to the conclusion that very traditional occupations like a tour guide might experience renaissance. When metaverses will grow, there might be a need for guides towards certain areas that will engage new entrants with local communities, show the cherry picks and provide access to secret places etc.

No doubt, new professions will require a new set of skills and the job environment will hardly be the same. Professions of the future will require skills connected to gamification, communication, and of course, creativity. Sounds like much more fun. As per usual, early birds will occupy the coolest branches.

How gaming became a serious occupation

The gaming industry is one of clear beneficiaries of the Web 3.0 development. According to forecasts, the industry will almost double its size from what it has been in 2020 by 2023 and reach $300 billion. The driver of this growth, among other factors, is the emergence of blockchain technologies and development of the decentralised industry that came in use first with the GameFi, and now with the MetaFi sector.

At first, GameFi forever changed the way we see the gaming industry because what once was considered mainly a hobby for teenagers became a way to earn a living. If previously purchased in-game items were the property of the centralised game company, GameFi made it the property of the gamers that can be used outside of the gaming universe.

A vivid example of the so-called Play-to-Earn model is Axie Infinity that became a sensation first in the Philippines. There was even a documentary (“Play-to-Earn. NFT Gaming in the Philippines”) that shared how people in the midst of pandemic and unemployment found ways to earn by breeding Axies and completing gaming tasks. Moreover, the earnings from gaming around 4 hours a day were comparable with an average salary in the village.

As any market in the nascent stage, first attempts are prone to have their ups and downs, and Play-to-Earn started to show the latter. The market soon understood three major drawbacks:

  1. The Play-to-Earn model promotes orientation for short-term results, hence can create bubbles and consequently, their burst with investors losing money and trust in the project. Gamers were not accountable for the future development of the universe.
  2. Many games built on the Play-to-Earn models started to be more about earning than fun due to lack of creativity and poor elaboration of the gaming scenarios.
  3. The model was not fully unlocking the potential of the decentralised technologies because gamers were not able to create their characters, invent gaming scenarios and actively participate in building a gaming universe.

New generation model Create-to-Earn emerged to solve all this problem in the MetaFi areas, as an intersection of metaverses and decentralised finance. It assumes that metagamers themselves will also be the builders of the universe. They can create NFTs, open businesses, create fun activities for the community and find hundreds of ways to earn and communicate in the metaverse. This not only brought back the fun to gaming, but allowed to create sustainable universes with decentralised autonomous organisations as a form of governance since creators naturally have the strongest bonds with its creations.

More elaborate universes with sustainable economics, on the one side, and plethora of creative opportunities, on the other side, created more ways to earn money. In the Play-to-Earn model, earning opportunities were limited by three possible ways: gaming, investing the characters and renting them out or on the general project token growth. Gamers were not able to create anything new in the game.

Give road to creators!

In the Create-to-Earn model, metagamers are finally able to show their creative capabilities. Like in the world of traditional professions, their creations can be very much in demand. For example, in the NFT Moon Metaverse organised as a DAO, avatars, first citizens of the premiere city Moonopolis will have all range of creators’ privileges: they will enjoy over 300 potential ways to earning, whether it be selling ID cards to new citizens, creating a type of business from scratch by creating a metastartup, renting space at Moon Plots for newbies or any form activity that other citizens find useful.

This opens roads for new professions that would not make sense outside of the MetaFi sector but have the potential to uplift personal finances. To gain new skills, Moonopolis provides avatars with an in-game educational system that will help succeed in such newly emerged professions as Metaverse builders, NFT creators etc.

Of course, in all universes, early birds catch the worm. For example, the first citizens of the Moonopolis will not actively participate in the governance structure of the city but also have a chance to try out the greatest number of occupations, have access to all spaces. In the business world, there is a first-mover advantage. Metaverses will be just the same.

Apart from that, early birds also have the best views and invitations to all events in the expanding metaverses. That is why one of the best strategies to get ready for upcoming progress and learn new skills is to participate in a metaverse creation from the very beginning.

How to start creating a universe from scratch

In May, an example of such opportunity is the UAE-based project the NFT Moon Metaverse. The open source code adds transparency to the projects, DAO organisation gives sought-after decentralisation and security while a chance to make it among the first makes it a lucrative deal on the turbulent market.

The first 500 citizens called DAO Avatars will set foot at premiere city Moonopolis to start creating and building new professions at the frontier on May, 15. The earliest of the birds will be able seize the moment and get access to the metaverse at the best price of 0.08 ETH during the presale (roughly $165). The main public sale of 4,500 DAO Avatars will be held on May 17 but already with the price increase to 0.1 ETH.

To participate in the presale and be one the first 500 Avatars, one needs to be whitelisted which happens after the registration on Discord. After that, the developers will send the notification about the start of the presale. Find more details in the FaQ section of the project’s website or on social media.
