Tether, the company issuing the largest stablecoin, announced that it purchased 8,888 Bitcoin in the first quarter of 2025. Now, Tether’s wallet is 7.8 billion dollars and is the sixth largest holder of BTC in a single wallet. 

Tether and the purchase of 8,888 Bitcoin in Q1 2025: the total wallet rises to 7.8 billion dollars

Tether, the company issuing the largest stablecoin USDT, announced that it purchased 8,888 Bitcoin in the first quarter of 2025. The CEO of Tether, Paolo Ardoino, shares the announcement on X:

“Tether purchased 8,888 bitcoin in the first quarter, bringing its total assets to 7.8 billion dollars, the sixth largest in a single portfolio.”

In practice, the latest purchase of 8,888 BTC was recorded on the first of April and follows Tether’s strategy of accumulating bitcoin during each quarter.

As of today, the total assets of Tether have therefore risen to 92,646 BTC, the equivalent of approximately 7.8 billion dollars at current prices.

Not only that, thanks to this purchase, the wallet of Tether becomes the sixth largest holder of bitcoin in a single wallet. 

Tether and its corporate strategic reserve of bitcoin

Tether began acquiring bitcoin in September 2022. In May 2023, Tether had announced that it would allocate up to 15% of its net realized operating profits to the purchase of Bitcoin. 

In fact, from that moment, the company behind USDT began purchasing BTC every quarter. At the beginning of 2024, Tether’s wallet was starting to climb the rankings of the largest BTC holders, reaching the 11th position.

In April 2024, then, Tether had purchased another 8,888.888 BTC, with its total wallet amounting to 75,354 BTC.

Arriving at this 2025, at the beginning of the year, the BTC accumulation strategy as a corporate reserve by Tether seems to have influenced another company, in which Tether is an investor for 775 million dollars. 

This is about the famous video streaming platform Rumble that has decided to make its first purchase of Bitcoin, promising to spend up to 20 million dollars for this strategy.

Michael Saylor congratulates Paolo Ardoino

Returning to today, the post on X by Ardoino announcing the new purchase of 8,888 BTC as a corporate reserve was commented on by Michael Saylor, the bitcoiner CEO of Strategy. 

Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) is the company that currently holds the largest number of BTC in the world as a single wallet. 

In fact, the company’s latest BTC purchases took place in March. The last one of 22,048 BTC was recorded on March 31, bringing the total of Strategy’s wallet to 528,185 BTC, equivalent to 44.41 billion dollars.
