According to data from the US Federal Bureau of Prisons, a 47-year-old man named Changpeng Zhao (with registration number 88087-510) is scheduled to be released on September 29, 2024.
There is almost no doubt that this person is Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao.
Zhao, known as CZ, the founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, is serving a four-month sentence in a federal prison in California, as first reported by Bloomberg in June.
The news has reignited discussions about CZ’s future and relationship with Binance. Despite stepping down as CEO late last year and being banned from the exchange’s board of directors for life, Zhao’s role in Binance’s founding and dominance in the crypto space has created an enduring bond between him and the platform.
While CZ’s departure from Binance was initially seen by many as a temporary move, reports later suggested that it signaled a more permanent departure.
While his removal appears to remove Zhao from the company’s operations, his influence on Binance’s direction and success is undeniable. Even in Zhao’s absence, Binance has continued to navigate the challenging regulatory landscape, but questions remain over its long-term strategy and leadership.
