Should Elon Musk decide to proceed with launching a ChatGPT rival, he will be competing with more than just OpenAI but also with Google’s parent company Alphabet.
Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer of American electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) reportedly has his eyes on developing an alternative product that can give ChatGPT a run for its money. As first broken by The Information, the billionaire investor who doubles as the owner of Twitter Inc, Musk is looking to form a new research lab to develop the product.
Per the report, Elon Musk is looking at onboarding Igor Babuschkin, a veteran Artificial Intelligence researcher who recently left the DeepMind AI Unit at Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. Igor’s vast experience in AI-related innovation will go a long way toward helping Musk achieve his ambitions.
The technology underpinning the ChatGPT hit the world by storm. As a conversational-style application, ChatGPT is able to create articles, and summaries of content based on simple input/prompts. There is no idea what the scope of Elon Musk’s version will be as the entire plans are still in their earliest phases.
According to the reports, the duo of Elon Musk and Igor have discussed assembling a team. Despite this, there is no apparent plan to float a specific product according to insights from earlier talks with Igor.
Elon Musk is among the founding founders of OpenAI alongside the current CEO of the firm, Sam Altman. Despite the growing accolade being given to ChatGPT, Elon Musk’s comment about the product is “Scary Good,” implying he may he is somewhat indecisive about whether the tech is as good as it is branded.
The more than 100 million adopters may disagree with Elon Musk, though the majority will agree that there are a number of fallacies in the answers being churned out by the pioneering conversational style AI-powered application.
Elon Musk Will Need to Compete Beyond ChatGPT
Should Elon Musk decide to proceed with launching a ChatGPT rival, he will be competing with more than just OpenAI but also with Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL) which has also floated its own version dubbed Bard.
Neither Bard nor ChatGPT is a perfect product at this time and should Musk venture out to float his own version, he will have to come up with an advancement on these existing alternatives. For now, companies adopting ChatGPT like Snap Inc (NYSE: SNAP) are warning their users of potential incorrect feedback from the tool.
“As with all AI-powered chatbots, My AI is prone to hallucination and can be tricked into saying just about anything. Please be aware of its many deficiencies and sorry in advance! All conversations with My AI will be stored and may be reviewed to improve the product experience. Please do not share any secrets with My AI and do not rely on it for advice,” Snap said in a statement following the announcement of its My AI tool.
