SpaceX has lent its support to the Dogecoin community, accepting payment in DOGE for the rescheduling of the DOGE-1 Lunar mission.
The Dogecoin community had long been awaiting the DOGE-1 Lunar mission, a trip that would have sent the DOGE memecoin to space.
The mission, which was initially supposed to be held earlier this year, could not launch due to the uncompleted requirements for the radio transmitter and the accompanying satellite.
Samuel Reid, the Chief Executive Officer of Geometric Energy Corporation teased the news on X, as he noted that the postponement did not originate from a lack of commitment to the mission on the part of the stakeholders.
SpaceX and Dogecoin
The history behind the subtle linkup between SpaceX and Dogecoin became pronounced back in 2021, when its CEO, Elon Musk officially took a sizable position in Bitcoin and announced his firm’s acceptance of Bitcoin and DOGE as payments for some products and services.
The postponed DOGE-1 mission is being funded by Dogecoin and SpaceX has aligned with this rare mission with the acceptance of the coin to reschedule the liftoff. BAs Reid hinted, the amount paid to SpaceX will cover rebooking charges and would place the DOGE-1 satellite liftoff in line after the current backlog with Intuitive Machines IM-1 is cleared.
GEC @GeometricEnergy paid @SpaceX in DOGE for re-booking the DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon to a mission after IM-1, which could be a @Int_Machines mission such as IM-2 or another mission depending upon when the DOGE-1 satellite ships to @maverick_space in the U.S. from @ExoboticsUK pic.twitter.com/5MKzDMIxtP

According to Reid, the projected timeline for the DOGE-1 mission is dependent on whether or not Exobiotics Limited is able to ship the Doge-1 satellite. The update from Samuel Reid aligns with the core ethics of transparency that the crypto ecosystem is generally known for.
Unlike when the date was unknown, the DOGE-1 mission is now scheduled to take place later this month.
Pioneering Spatial Evolution
At the heart of the ongoing research and engineering work at SpaceX is the goal to foster interplanetary excursions, travels and possibly the settlement of mankind on planets other than earth.
Visionary as this appears, Dogecoin is already playing a foundational role as one of the accepted modes of payment. Should SpaceX choose to continually accept the coin for transactions, it might become a key component in interplanetary commerce later in the future.
The upside on price if this happens is enormous. At the time of writing, the price and market cap of Dogecoin has dropped 2.20% to $0.07797 and $11,139,481,419 while the trading volume is down 16.44% to $207,298,491.
