Soneium and Animoca Launch Anime ID for Web3 Anime Fans

  • Animoca Brands partners with Soneium to launch Anime ID, blending digital identity and anime culture on blockchain.
  • Soneium and LINE plan to integrate mini-apps, supported by Moca Network for seamless Web3 access.

Animoca Brands has just announced a partnership with Soneium, an Ethereum-based Layer-2 blockchain co-developed by Sony Group through Sony Block Solutions Labs. Through this collaboration, Moca Network, Animoca’s digital identity infrastructure platform, will build a core identity layer on top of the Soneium network.

For those who are not familiar, Moca Network is known for its Account, Identity, and Reputation SDK (AIR SDK) technology that can be installed into various decentralized applications.

Well, in Soneium, this technology will provide users with a single embedded account that can carry their identity and credentials when moving from one application to another. So, no need to re-register every time you move dApps. Just imagine having one account for all social media, but the Web3 version.

Anime ID Kicks Off a Cultural Onboarding Into Web3

This partnership begins with the launch of Anime ID, a decentralized identity and reputation system focused on the anime fan community. Anime ID was developed by San FranTokyo, the team behind the Anime Foundation. This system will be a pioneer in the use of AIR SDK on the Soneium network. It will providing reputation-based credentials that can be verified openly.

Not only about the technology, this collaboration also targets the cultural aspect. San FranTokyo, together with Animoca, will hold an anime-themed campaign that is integrated with blockchain features. This strategy aims to invite more new users into the Web3 world, especially from anime fans.

LINE Mini-Apps Set to Boost Soneium Adoption

On the other hand, CNF previously reported that Soneium has collaborated with LINE to integrate four popular mini-apps into their blockchain ecosystem in the next few months. This came after Soneium launched its mainnet last January, along with the launch of LINE’s decentralized application portal.

The entry of these mini-apps could be a major driver of blockchain adoption, especially considering that LINE users in Asia are very large.

With the support of digital identity from Moca Network, the user experience in this ecosystem could feel more personal and consistent. It is also possible that in the future, LINE users will be able to log in to blockchain applications with just one verified identity.

Gaming, Stablecoins, and Beyond: Animoca’s Broader Moves

Animoca Brands’ collaboration with Soneium is not the only expansion step they have taken in recent months. In December 2024, Animoca Brands Japan entered into a partnership with Oasys to expand the blockchain gaming ecosystem in Greater China.

Under the partnership, Animoca Brands Japan became a validator on the Oasys network, bringing their gaming resources and experience to a global scale.

Furthermore, as previously mentioned in our report, Animoca Brands is also involved in a partnership with Standard Chartered and HKT to apply for a Hong Kong dollar-based stablecoin issuance license under the HKMA’s new framework. The goal is clear—to facilitate cross-border transactions and accelerate blockchain adoption in the real world of finance.
