Solana Ecosystem Maintains an Impressive Dev Activity Level

  • Solana has continued to emerge with over 10.7% notable GitHub events.
  • Arbitrum and Avalanche experienced over 5.2% growth in development activities.
  • Development activity provides long-term roadmaps about blockchains’ innovation trends.

According to data from Santiment, a blockchain analysis platform, Solana saw over 10.7% notable GitHub events in the first week of October, putting it among the top blockchain ecosystems in development activities. Arbitrum and Avalanche had over 5.2% growth in development activities during the same period, showing their progress in development activities as blockchain ecosystems.

In a recent post on X, Santiment explained that looking at the crypto development activity within blockchain ecosystems gives you long-term roadmaps of their innovation trends. Blockchain community members use information about development activities to compare decentralized blockchain ecosystems and to see how they’re doing by innovation.

It is worth noting that blockchain ecosystems with higher development activities get more users and have higher adoption than those with lower dev activities. So, it is important to know how many developers are in a blockchain ecosystem and the ratio of those actively contributing.

Santiment’s development activity measurement looks at the sum of the developer activities of all assets within the specific ecosystems. It filters the metrics to capture accurate developer contributions to the blockchain ecosystems, because not all GitHub events accurately reflect developers’ contributions.

For example, data from the analysis platform shows Ethereum had 1.1 million developers’ activity events, with 1,900 contributors, while the BNB Chain had slightly above 513,000 dev activities, with 986 contributors. Other top blockchain ecosystems with notable developer activity include Polygon, with 443,300 dev activities and 770 contributors, and Optimism, which recorded almost 338,000 developer activity events and 493 contributors.

Project adoption from developers’ activity directly affects the valuation of blockchain ecosystem tokens. For instance, Solana’s strong record in developers’ activity is reflected in SOL’s performance, as it has been one of the best-performing cryptocurrencies in 2024. The same goes for ARB and AVAX, cryptocurrencies that have done well at different times of the year.
