COINOTAG disclosed that on September 21, the yield protocol Shezmu successfully recuperated close to $5 million in illicitly obtained funds mere hours after negotiating with cybercriminals. Early this morning, Chaofan Shou, co-founder of blockchain analysis firm Fuzzland, alerted that a repository belonging to Shezmu had been compromised. Though the nature of the intrusion remains ambiguous, Shou verified that approximately $4.9 million in cryptocurrency was pilfered during the breach. Shezmu later acknowledged the breach in its ShezmuUSD stablecoin repository and promptly solicited the hacker to return the stolen funds in return for a bounty, assuring no legal repercussions. The hacker countered this offer, demanding a 20% bounty instead of the proposed 10%, to which Shezmu acquiesced. Hours later, Shezmu began the process of retrieving the stolen assets. However, as of now, the full sum has yet to be restored, prompting the Shezmu team to advise investors to limit interactions with the protocol’s Oasis vault until further notifications.
