Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison Story to Air on Netflix

American streaming giant Netflix Inc. is set to tell the story of Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder and former CEO of FTX Derivatives Exchange. In what it described as a Limited Series to help the masses learn about crypto, the company has named the cast for the effective altruism purveyor. While the firm refused to give a timeline for when the movie will air, it confirmed it will also feature Caroline Ellison, the CEO of Alameda Research.

Netflix and the Sam Bankman-Fried Story

According to the streaming platform, the title of the upcoming show is ‘The Altruist,’ a new eight-episode limited series about Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison.

The company said Julia Garner, the acclaimed Actress who starred in Inventing Anna and The Ozarks, will portray Caroline Ellison. Anthony Boyle from the House of Guinness will play Sam Bankman-Fried.

While no one knows the unique twists ahead, it will likely feature the roles both SBF and Caroline played in the collapse of the crypto exchange. As Netflix revealed, this show is part of its partnership with Higher Ground. This partnership also have other non-crypto-focused titles in its lineup.

It is not uncommon to find production companies running stories of crypto-based entities. Last year, in the search for Satoshi Nakamoto, HBO released a documentary assuming it knew who the Bitcoin founder was.

After much anticipation, the movie powerhouse named Bitcoin core developer Peter Todd as the face behind Satoshi. However, Todd has denied the claims, setting the record straight on how he could not have been the BTC creator.

Latest Update on SBF Jail Term

The story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison is worth recalling. To his credit, he built the crypto empire to a valuation of over $16 billion at its peak. However, fund mismanagement and fraud led him to throw this legacy away.

A big hole in its balance sheet, discovered in Q4 2022, led to the firm’s filing for bankruptcy. For his role, SBF received a 25-year jail term, and Caroline Ellison was sentenced to 2 years in prison.

This sentence drew strong reactions from crypto community members, with some noting how unfair it is. However, pro-crypto lawyer John Deaton slammed the unfair sentence argument, noting that even his parents are also supposed to join him in jail.

Despite the criticism, the FTX founder’s alleged good behavior and community service are helping to reduce his overall jail term. Notably, there are reports that his parents, Joe Bankman and Barbara Fried, are looking for clemency. However, many noted that his best bet to leave jail on time is good conduct.
