OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is reportedly working on a new social media platform that will integrate ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) giant is looking to rival Elon Musk’s X and Meta as competition tightens globally. Recently, Musk and Altman have engaged in a social media rift after the former offered to buy ChatGPT.
Open AI Eyes Social Network
OpenAI is developing an X-like social platform focused on ChatGPT’s image generation. Citing sources familiar with the matter, The Verge wrote that Sam Altman is seeking feedback about the project. At the moment, little is known whether it will become a standalone application or integrated into ChatGPT.
Adding a social feed to its AI model will help it scale, allowing it to access real-time, unique data. Simultaneously, it fosters user engagement amid growing competition across AI and social media giants. Musk’s X integrated Grok with real-time data to train the AI model effectively. X users showed optimism that Grok would receive diverse responses for both educational and entertainment purposes.
This received massive reactions, with some executives saying it made everyone jealous, especially due to its high use cases. Meta is also planning a social feed for its incoming AI assistant. The launch of the platform will create fierce competition between X and OpenAI. In February, Altman hinted at OpenAI’s social app after reports of Meta’s upcoming platform gained traction.
OpenAI looks to introduce new products to stay ahead of the market amid recent headwinds. In January, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek shook the US market after launching at a fraction of ChatGPT’s cost. The backlash raised scrutiny on OpenAI, with Altman pledging better models in the future.

Sam Altcoin and Elon Musk Rivalry Mounts
Reports of OpenAI launching an X-like social feed add to the growing tension between Musk and Altman. In February, Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $ 30 billion, a move that started a new chapter in the rift. Altman wrote on X “No thank you, but we will buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want,” in response to the Tesla CEOs offer.
Afterward, Musk filed a lawsuit accusing OpenAI of deviating from its non-profit structure. On their part, the company accused Musk of being the first to advocate for a profit model and also counter-sued Musk, citing attempts at a hostile takeover and bad faith tactics.
