Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin jumped 20% in trading volume after news broke that Switzerland’s AMINA bank would be the first regulated bank to integrate the stablecoin. Ripple aims to be a more efficient version of SWIFT, which is an international banking network. For Ripple to be accepted as a legitimate replacement for SWIFT, it needs to gain recognition by banks and institutions across the world.

The news, therefore, had a significant impact on trading volume, with daily volume reaching $60 million and market capitalisation surpassing $469 million. AMINA bank has agreed to allow its customers to enjoy custody and trading of RLUSD, which exposes Ripple to a new market of traditional investors.

AMINA bank has become the first bank in the world to accept Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin. Ripple has been making efforts to accelerate its integration with traditional banking services. The banking sector has started to take a serious interest in stablecoins and has begun the process of researching appropriate tokens to complement their business structures.

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority has approved AMINA under its regulatory standards. Ripple would be accepting this move as a milestone in their efforts to become a global banking service. AMINA will be able to use the features of RLUSD to provide fast cross-border transactions for institutional clients. This move complements Ripple’s recent efforts to gain regulatory approval in the US to take custody of its reserve treasury.

AMINA bank wishes to combine the security of a traditional bank with the technological efficiency of a blockchain. They have chosen a token that has ISO accreditation, which may have been an influencing factor in their choice. After all, a bank must meet certain regulatory thresholds to handle a client’s funds. The bank may have chosen Ripple because the crypto project offers services specifically aimed at institutional clients. In the crypto world, Ripple is the enterprise version of blockchain technology. Ripple also has cash and cash equivalent reserves to back up their RLUSD stablecoin. This would ensure that tokens can be redeemed for actual fiat money.

RLUSD has now joined USDC as part of AMINA Bank’s partnerships. AMINA has indeed adopted stablecoins as part of its business structure. Digital assets will benefit from this adoption because they will be normalised in the financial world. Swiss banks often have a lot of regulatory standards to abide by. Switzerland is an ideal location for crypto projects because the country has a long history of banking and innovation.

AMINA offers clients transaction-free services with USDC and has a variety of features that clients can integrate into their businesses. USDC can be used with hot and cold wallets to ensure that funds are secure. RLUSD may adopt some of these advanced features so that clients have more options. There is also a demand for EU stablecoins due to the location of the Swiss bank. US dollar reserves back both USDC and RLUSD. There is an ongoing dispute between European regulators and US projects as to the negative impact of US dollar dominance in the European market.

Ripple launched its RLUSD stablecoin in December 2024, promising a stable representation of $1 for institutional clients to use for professional purposes. Government bonds, cash, and cash equivalents back the stablecoin. Ripple aims to have high standards with its ISO standards, which are also used by the SWIFT banking system.

RLUSD has been the fastest-growing stablecoin on the market, being accepted on various exchanges such as Kraken and Gemini. RLUSD still has a long way to go in terms of market capitalization. However, its security features may attract more institutional businesses. Ripple decided to build its stablecoin because businesses were worried about trading XRP in the event of global volatility. A stablecoin allows businesses to have a more predictable transaction process.
