  • Ripple, XRPL Labs, Swirlds Labs, and the Algorand Foundation form the DeRec Alliance.
  • The alliance aims to standardize digital asset recovery in the Web3 space.
  • New members like Acoer and BankSocial join to enhance recovery standards.

In a move that has attracted the interest of market participants, Ripple and XRPL Labs have partnered with Swirlds Labs and the Algorand Foundation to establish the DeRec Alliance.

The two-year coalition, forged by leading entities in the blockchain and cryptocurrency arena, aims to introduce a standardized approach to digital asset recovery and tackle the complexity often associated with securing and retrieving online assets, accounts, and passwords in the Web3 space.

“We are excited to announce that Ripple and XRPLLabs have joined Swirldslabs and AlgoFoundation as Founding Members of the Decentralized Recovery Alliance, with two-year seats on the Technical Oversight Committee providing input on governance and core Alliance policies.” DeRec Alliance announced via an X post.

Moreover, new members such as Acoer, BankSocial, Blade Labs, The Building Blocks, Casper Association, Constellation Network, The Hashgraph Association, The HBAR Foundation, and Revive Labs will further improve the alliance’s goals. Per the alliance, these members will offer insights and expertise to developing “interoperability recovery” standards.

Led by Dr. Leemon Baird, co-founder of Hedera, DeRec Alliance was launched in January with Hedera and Algorand as the pioneer partners. The alliance improved the security and recovery of digital assets, eliminating complex procedures required in Web3 environments.

Months later, the coalition, through collaborative efforts with industry stakeholders, is establishing open-source protocols to simplify digital asset recovery and make it more accessible to users worldwide.

Dr. Baird commented on the development via a statement on DeRec’s official website, saying, “The DeRec Alliance is a group of individuals and organizations committed to making the process of securing and recovering digital assets, accounts, passwords, and other secrets as simple as existing Web2 experiences.”

He further encouraged collaboration across blockchains and industries to ensure the safety of Web3.

Furthermore, John Woods, the CTO of the Algorand Foundation, emphasized the significance of expanding the alliance’s membership base, highlighting the critical mass required to drive positive industry-wide impact. Woods noted that with Web3 applications gaining traction, the focus is on enhancing user experience and simplifying the processes for widespread adoption.
