Here are the potential end dates of the SEC vs. Ripple lawsuit.
It is common knowledge that the ongoing lawsuit between the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple is likely to end soon. However, there is still no precise date on when the legal battle will end.
Crypto enthusiasts following the lawsuit are left with predictions from top cryptocurrency and legal experts. Many expected the final verdict of the SEC vs. Ripple lawsuit to come on March 31, 2023, based on the prediction of pro-crypto lawyer James K. Filan.
XRP community members widely accepted Filan’s prediction because he is always among the first people to share updates related to the case. XRP enthusiasts believed that Filan was in the best position to know about the lawsuit’s end date, as he seems to have a close relationship with the court’s officials.
However, his prediction did not come to pass, leaving the community to rely on predictions made by other experts.
John Deaton Eyes May 6
As reported by TheCryptoBasic, pro-XRP lawyer John E. Deaton speculates that Judge Analisa Torres will announce her ruling on or before May 6, 2023. Deaton noted that his prediction is based on Judge Torres’ previous cases.
According to Deaton, Judge Torres had previously granted summary judgment 60 days after her decision on Daubert’s motion. Given that Judge Torres ruled on Daubert’s motion on March 6, Deaton expects her summary judgment on the SEC v. Ripple case to come on or before May 6, 2023, based on the Judge’s previous cases.
Ripple CEO Prediction
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, also a defendant in the case, has also commented on the possible end date of the lawsuit.
Speaking to CNBC on January 18 at the World Economic Forum 2023 held in Davos, Switzerland, Garlinghouse disclosed that he expects the lawsuit to end within the first half of 2023.
From Garlinghouse’s prediction, Judge Torres is expected to deliver her verdict between now and June 30, 2023.
Ripple Says Final Verdict Will Come Before December 31
Meanwhile, Ripple has also joined other cryptocurrency community members to predict the date the SEC lawsuit will likely end.
In its most recent quarterly market report (Q1 2023), Ripple said it expects the final verdict of the lawsuit to come before the end of this year.
Based on Ripple’s prediction, the Silicon Valley-based tech company believes the summary judgment may come from now until December 31, 2023.
These dates are mere speculation, and there is still no precise date Judge Torres is expected to rule. On March 31, Attorney Deaton dismissed the idea that the SEC and Ripple would know before Judge Torres grants summary judgment in the case.
According to Deaton, the only people who would know before Judge Torres issues her ruling are her staff and the court’s clerks who helped her with research materials.
