The official X account of Solana-based memecoin factory Pump.Fun has been compromised, according to some social media reports.
Earlier this Wednesday, the account posted the official governance token of the platform in order to supposedly reward some “OG degens.”
However, X users were quickly warned against interacting with the profile since the tokens were fraudulent.
As reported by U.Today, the official account of Time, one of the most famous magazines, was also recently hacked to promote a fake Solana-based cryptocurrency.
Such attacks tend to be rather frequent, and Elon Musk’s X has yet to find a reliable way of countering them.
A mysterious attack
Following the attack, Pump.Fun swiftly managed to regain access to the compromised account. “We will continue to monitor the situation and analyze any scenarios that could have taken place and report if there are any updates,” the team said.
Notably, no messages were sent to the email linked to the compromised account, and the email account was the email account was secured with 2FA.
Moreover, no phone numbers were linked to the account. The same applies to third-party apps.
Only a single person had access to the hacked account when the attack took place, according to Pump.Fun.
It has been suggested that the successful hacking attempt was the result of social engineering. The modus operand is similar to some of the other attacks that recently took place on X, with bad actors possibly tricking X employees with fake documents.
“Make sure to double-check any information that you see with various sources before making any decisions,” the Pump.Fun team added.
