Nintendo: former president confirms the metaverse trend

Former Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aimé has stated that gaming companies will be the leaders in the metaverse.

Nintendo: for Reggie Fils-Aimé, the future of gaming is in the metaverse

The leaders of the metaverse will be the gaming companies

Reggie Fils-Aimé, former President of Nintendo, stated that gaming companies are poised to be the leaders in the metaverse.

Specifically, Fils-Aimé believes that gaming and the metaverse go hand in hand. Here are his exact words:

“I do believe that this vision is something that we’re all marching to. I do believe it’s going to be led by gaming companies and I do believe that — if delivered in a way that’s fun, that’s compelling — it’s an experience that people will want to have”.

He adds:

“I describe [the metaverse] as a space that’s immersive and interactive, a space that has the ability to be modified, but can still be persistent. Imagine walking on sand, and seeing other footprints — that’s an example of where you’re able to modify an environment but it is persistent. You’ve seen what other people have done”.

Nintendo: the metaverse and gaming

Nintendo revealed at the beginning of February that it was investigating how it could provide joy to users through the metaverse and NFTs.

In doing so, the famous gaming company was already confirming the potential of immersive experiences and Non-Fungible Tokens, but was concerned about how to use it all so as not to diminish the ‘joy’ of its fans.

Nintendo’s thinking might be a consequence of what happened to its competitor SEGA, which launched into the virtual sector without much thought

In fact, SEGA had already revealed last year that it had collaborated with game developer Double Jump Tokyo, with the intention of launching NFT content on the company’s classic and current IPs, as well as future projects.

The reaction of fans in that case was not entirely positive, and SEGA had to halt its plans regarding Play-to-Earn schemes.

The case of the LEGO Group

The Lego Group has also jumped into the metaverse. Recently, Vice President Edward Lewin is said to have given his opinion during WEF 2022, stating that the metaverse should be developed from the perspective of children.

According to Lewin, the metaverse could be a great way for future generations to learn.

This is why LEGO together with Epic Games revealed in early April their collaboration to build a place in the metaverse with new digital and immersive experiences for children and families.
