new strategy to tackle the challenges

The Ethereum Foundation has announced a significant internal restructuring, with the goal of addressing the growing concerns of the community and strengthening the role of the blockchain in the global technological landscape.

The decision comes at a delicate time, marked by persistent criticism regarding the management and strategic direction of the organization.

A necessary turning point for the future of Ethereum Foundation

The foundation, based in Switzerland, announced through a post on its official blog the intention to reorganize its research and development team.

The most significant change concerns the division “Protocol Research and Development”, which will now be known simply as “Protocol”

This new setup aims to focus efforts on three fundamental priorities: base layer scalability, blobspace expansion, and improvement of the user experience.

According to what has been stated, these changes represent a departure from previous operating methods, but they are considered essential to make the organization more reactive and effective

“The changes we announce today mark a turning point from the past, but we believe they set us on a more effective and responsive path,” reads the official statement.

As part of the restructuring, the Ethereum Foundation has confirmed the dismissal of some members of the research and development team. However, the exact number of people involved has not been specified.

“Some members of PR&D will not continue with the Ethereum Foundation,” reads the blog.

The organization has expressed the hope that these professionals can continue their work within the Ethereum ecosystem, encouraging other entities to consider them for new opportunities.

These changes come after a series of modifiche nella leadership, implemented to respond to the community’s criticisms.

For over a year, in fact, several observers and developers have raised the alarm: if Ethereum does not promptly address some fundamental technical issues, it risks losing its position as a leader in the blockchain sector.

The three priorities of the new “Protocol” team

The new “Protocol” team will be the fulcrum of Ethereum’s core development efforts. Its mission will be to improve public visibility on update timelines, technical documentation, and research activity

In particular, the focus will be on three key areas. Scalability has long been one of the main challenges for Ethereum.

With the increase in transactions and the growing adoption of the network, it is crucial to ensure that the base layer of the blockchain can handle an ever-increasing volume of activity without compromising speed or security.

The blobspace is a crucial element of Ethereum’s data availability strategy.

The expansion of this component is seen as a strategic move to improve the efficiency and capacity of the network to support increasingly complex decentralized applications.

Another central goal is to make Ethereum more accessible and intuitive for users. Improving the user experience means simplifying interaction with the blockchain, making it easier for developers and end users to leverage the potential of the network.

The announced changes represent a direct response to the criticisms that have been circulating for some time within the Ethereum community.

Many have expressed concern about the lack of transparency, the slowness in decision-making processes, and the unclear management of technical priorities

The reorganization, therefore, is seen as a concrete attempt to address these issues and restore confidence in the leadership of the foundation.

Hsiao-Wei Weng, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “We are confident that this new structure will allow our internal teams to focus with greater clarity and advance key initiatives.”

A new phase for Ethereum

“`

With this restructuring, the Ethereum Foundation is preparing to face a new phase of its evolution.

The objective is clear: to strengthen Ethereum’s position as the leading platform in the world of blockchains, decisively addressing the technical and organizational challenges that threaten its growth.

Although many uncertainties remain — starting with the actual effectiveness of the new structure and the ability to retain the best talents — the message from the foundation is unequivocal: it is time to change course to ensure a solid and innovative future for the Ethereum network.

In a constantly evolving sector, where innovation is the key to survival, the ability to adapt and respond to criticism can make the difference between success and oblivion.

The Ethereum Foundation seems to have understood it, and with this move aims to reaffirm its leadership role in the blockchain ecosystem.
