Floki Inu has launched a new ad campaign targeting commuters using London’s bus and underground networks. One of the memecoins themed around the Japanese dog breed Shiba Inu, Floki Inu, is named after Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s dog.
The previous ad campaign launched in October 2021 ran for about two months and was scrutinized by the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The ad industry regulator said in November 2021, when the campaign was still running, it had received complaints about the ads not conforming with the rules and began an investigation.
Finally, in March 2022, ASA concluded that the Floki Inu ads whose strapline read “Missed Doge? Get Floki” were “irresponsible” and banned them.
New Floki Inu London Ads
The Floki Inu team announced the new ads on Twitter on April 23, followed by a corporate blog on Medium. “First London campaign of 22 will kick off 25th of April! This campaign will take over London with 100 bus campaigns and cover The London Underground,” the tweet informed.
The new campaign begins today and will continue for four weeks. During this period, Floki Inu ads will feature on 100 bus supersides and 18 cross-track (large posters), and 185 small posters in the London Underground network.
“In a sense, this second London campaign is an even bigger win for Floki and the crypto industry as a whole than the first, as our team has fought for the right to advertise our groundbreaking project to the public. We look forward to many more campaigns like this, both in London and globally.” Sabre, Director of Marketing (Floki), said in the Medium blog.
Response to Ban on Previous Ads
In its response to ASA’s investigation into its London ad campaign last year, Floki, in a press release in March 2022, denied the allegations made against it and differed with the watchdog’s conclusions. “Floki had received approval from CAP (Committee of Advertising Practice) that the ads were in compliance with their standards,” it said.
In the latest blog that announced the launch of the new ad campaign, the Floki team said it doesn’t want to fight with the regulators.
“We continue to build the Floki ecosystem for the future of our investors. We would rather not involve ourselves in politics. If regulators want a fight, to them we simply say: we would rather educate and teach you as they do in one of the schools we’re helping to build in underprivileged nations….,” Sabre said.
In February 2022, Floki launched a marketing campaign in the US and Turkey markets through strategic television commercials involving CNN, CNBC, Discovery, and ESPN, among others.
