Microsoft Co-founder Bill Gates Praises OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Ever since its release in the fourth quarter of 2022, OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been a hit with its users. It has also passed a number of challenging exams, such as the United States Medical Licensing Exam and the Wharton School’s MBA exam.

Bill Gates, executive of Microsoft, recently told the German news outlet Handelsblatt that he thinks the development of ChatGPT is as important as the creation of the internet.

Multi-billion Dollar Investment

He said that ChatGPT demonstrated the potential of artificial intelligence and that the technology will have a profoundly beneficial impact on the workplace. Even if artificial intelligence (AI) is still making major blunders, Gates said technology has the potential to improve office life by making workers more effective and productive.

Even Bill Gates had his doubts about the promise of new technologies at the outset. The businessman predicted widespread joblessness over a decade ago during a speech given to The American Enterprise Institute. At that time, he predicted that software automation and robots will eliminate much employment over the next two decades. 

However, Gates’ recent statements emphasize the drastic change in his views. Currently, Microsoft is supporting ChatGPT. OpenAI and Microsoft recently announced that they will be expanding their collaboration. A “multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment” into the expansion was reportedly completed by the artificial intelligence firm and the tech behemoth.
