Kyrgyzstan Launches Stablecoin and CBDC in Binance Partnership

In Brief

  • Kyrgyzstan’s CBDC and stablecoin go live, supporting public and government payments.
  • National crypto reserve includes BNB as part of Kyrgyzstan’s digital asset strategy.
  • Binance partners with universities and localises app to boost blockchain education.

Kyrgyzstan has launched its national stablecoin on BNB Chain, signalling a major move toward blockchain-based financial infrastructure. The country also confirmed its central bank digital currency (CBDC), the digital som, is now ready for rollout.

The government will use the CBDC for official transactions, while the stablecoin will support broader payments and remittance flows. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) announced the developments during a recent visit and high-level meetings in Bishkek.

Additionally, Kyrgyzstan established its first National Cryptocurrency Reserve, with BNB among the initial assets included for long-term value backing. This dual-token approach highlights the country’s intent to integrate traditional and digital systems within its public finance framework.

The stablecoin, expected to be pegged 1:1 to the Kyrgyz som, is under testing for future cross-border settlement use. BNB Chain will act as the settlement layer, enabling fast and secure on-chain transactions for citizens and institutions.

Education, App Localization, and Infrastructure Receive Major Boost

Kyrgyzstan is strengthening its blockchain readiness through education and regulatory capacity-building in partnership with Binance and other crypto firms. Binance Academy has joined with ten leading universities to deliver crypto education across the country.

The Binance App is now fully localised in the Kyrgyz language, improving accessibility for local users and expanding digital finance adoption. Law enforcement agencies are also undergoing training to better manage crypto-related compliance and risks.

Binance also hosted a major crypto meetup in Bishkek, drawing over 1,000 participants from the growing local blockchain community. The event reinforced Kyrgyzstan’s positioning as an innovation hub for blockchain in Central Asia.

EthSign and other blockchain companies are now collaborating with the Kyrgyz government to support strategic implementation efforts. The initiatives form part of a larger push to transform Kyrgyzstan into a leader in digital asset adoption and infrastructure in the region.
