Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is deeply regretting dumping most of his XRP holdings just weeks before the price of the payments-focused token entered a phase of parabolic expansion and set a historic milestone.
Portnoy Kicks Himself For Selling His XRP Bag At $2.40
Dave Portnoy took to X on Thursday to reveal that he “would’ve made millions” if he had just held onto his massive XRP stack.
“I would’ve made millions, and I want to cry. I don’t own it anymore, even though I was the leader of the XRP army,” Portnoy wrote.
His statement came after XRP rocketed over 20% within a 24-hour time frame to reach a fresh record high of $3.65. XRP’s rally followed three significant pieces of crypto legislation passing the US House of Representatives, with the GENIUS Act set to create a federal framework for stablecoins — a move that boosts investor confidence as it aligns with Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin ambitions.
The outspoken media personality said he sold XRP while it was worth $2.40 a piece two weeks ago.

“I sold XRP when it went up to $2.40 because the guy that told me to buy it told me to sell it because he thought Circle would compete with them and was unhappy with it,” he clarified.
Earlier this month, Ripple applied for a national bank license at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), just two days after a similar move by its stablecoin rival Circle.
Portnoy had acknowledged during the Consensus 2025 that he had only purchased XRP out of FOMO (fear of missing out) in case it became the next Bitcoin, not because he had some strong conviction in the asset.
Did Ripple Co-Founder Larsen Also Recently Dump XRP?
Meanwhile, Ripple co-founder and Executive Chairman Chris Larsen transferred roughly $26 million worth of XRP to crypto exchange Coinbase earlier this week in a number of transactions, according to blockchain data.
The move came just before XRP’s explosive trajectory started. Around the time of the transaction, the token was valued at around $2.80. Larsen’s wallet movement has sparked speculation about a potential sale, as transfers to centralized exchanges typically imply the owner is prepping to take profits.
Could Larsen also be regretting selling early?
