Many people lost their jobs once Elon Musk became Twitter’s CEO. Hundreds of independent contractors were suddenly let off with no warning. But it seems that the tables have flipped recently. Hundreds of Twitter workers have thrown up their arms because of Musk’s very rigorous workplace culture.
Elon Musk emailed colleagues earlier this week about his plans for “Twitter 2.0,” noting that it would be “high intensity” and “extremely hardcore” and hence required “long hours.” Further, the executive requested that all workers sign a digital pledge by Thursday at 5 p.m. ET. The severance package included three months of compensation if the employee did not sign the document.
Not the Ideal Start
Many staff members took to Slack after the deadline passed to announce that they had rejected Musk’s offer with goodbye messages and salute emojis. Concurrently, workers began tweeting that their time with the firm had come to an end.
Those that use the salute emoji have made it clear that they will not be participating in Musk’s “Twitter 2.0” cultural overhaul. Most of them said they loved working for the firm, despite the fact that they were leaving.
At the same time, Twitter is closing its doors since so many of its staff have left. Offices will be closed and staff badge access would be turned off until Monday, the business said in an email. Earnings dropped, and Elon Musk said it was because fewer people were paying to advertise. However, layoffs were also executed quickly once the new CEO took office.
