Hoskinson comments on Cardano’s recent network outage and recovery.
In a tweet today, Charles Hoskinson commented on the network outage that rocked the Cardano blockchain over the weekend. Recall that Cardano suffered a brief network outage yesterday between blocks 8300569 and 8300570. Interestingly, the problem was automatically fixed within minutes.
Cardano Founder Reacts
Commenting on the development, Cardano founder Hoskinson said the issue that occurred over the weekend showed the value of “self-healing” and “fully decentralized networks.” He added that Cardano showcased its ability to recover from node stalls and continue without noticeable disruption.
“A cascade of node stalls can recover and continue operation without noticeable disruption,” Hoskinson said.
Hoskinson added that the recent development suggests that Cardano is a truly resilient system that will continue to evolve and thrive in the years to come.

Cardano Brief Outage and Recovery
Yesterday, Cardano suffered an anomaly that caused around half of the network’s nodes to go offline. Stake pool operator Rick McCracken took to Twitter to shed light on the issue while assuring the community that the entire network did not shut down.
“Last night during the anomaly on the #Cardano network, the entire network did not go down,” McCracken said.
He added that Cardano saw a period of degradation, adding that all impacted nodes had “gracefully recovered.” McCracken attached a screenshot of a Telegram broadcast message from the SPO for Input Output Global (IOG), the research and engineering firm behind Cardano.

Explaining the sudden disruption, the post noted:
“This appears to have been triggered by a transient anomaly causing one of the two reactions in the node; some disconnected from a peer, and others threw an exception and restarted.”
Interestingly, Cardano recovered automatically without any external intervention. As explained in the Telegram post, Cardano’s development team had considered “such transient issues” in the node design and consensus, adding:
“The systems behaved exactly as expected.”
It bears mentioning that Cardano block production continued during the anomaly but was slowed down for a few minutes. Notably, the team is currently investigating the root cause of the issue that caused 50% of Cardano nodes to go offline and restart.
