Holonym Buys Gitcoin Passport to Expand Proof of Humanity

• Holonym acquires Gitcoin Passport and rebrands it as Human Passport.

Holonym Foundation bought Gitcoin Passport to create the world’s largest Proof of Humanity solution. The deal will have Gitcoin Passport rebranded as Human Passport, integrating Holonym’s Human Key technology to increase privacy-preserving digital identity.

Human.tech, a product suite backed by Holonym, will issue 34.5 million zero-knowledge credentials to Gitcoin Passport’s two million users. This will produce over three times the identity proofs of Worldcoin, making Holonym the Sybil detection and decentralized reputation leader.

Holonym CEO Shady El Damaty emphasized the need for privacy-focused digital identity in current online interactions. He added that integrating Gitcoin Passport into human.tech is a significant step toward digital human rights. This move also strengthens the concept of self-sovereign identity.

Holonym Expands Digital Identity with Gitcoin Passport Deal

Gitcoin Passport Founder Kevin Owocki welcomed the transformation, attributing the acquisition as doubling down on the mission to create an identity layer based on privacy, trust, and decentralization. He added that the Human Passport will give users more rights over their data while sustaining verifiable trust in Web3 interactions.

Gitcoin Passport has been at the center of the blockchain ecosystem, providing reputation tools to over 110 partners and locking up over $200 million in airdrops. Utilizing the Proof of Humanity Score assisted in mitigating Sybil attacks, token allocations, and even providing support for self-sovereign identity identity systems. 

Alongside human. tech, the new Human Passport will add new zero-knowledge features to enhance composite on-chain reputation. By connecting Holonym’s Human network with the identity blockchain of Gitcoin Passport, Web3 users will have a single identity that is trusted yet respects their privacy.
