Georgia Tech Set To Hire Damon Stoudamire To 5-Year Deal: Report

Georgia Tech is set to hire Boston Celtics assistant and former Pacific head coach Damon Stoudamire to a 5-year contract to replace the fired Josh Pastner, according to a report from ESPN.

“Yes, it’s done,” a person with directly knowledge confirmed.

The ACC school fired Pastner on Friday after seven seasons.

Since 2010, Georgia Tech has been to just one NCAA Tournament, in 2021.

Stoudamire, 49, went 71-77 in five seasons at Pacific with just one winning season. He took over a team that went 8-20 and was facing NCAA sanctions, but Pacific gradually improved on his watch and went 23-10 in 2019-20, earning Stoudamire West Coast Conference Coach of the Year honors. He left in 2021 to join Ime Udoka’s staff with the Celtics.

Boston reached the NBA Finals last season, losing to Golden State, and currently boasts one of the NBA’s best records (47-21).

Stoudamire was the No. 7 pick in the 1995 NBA Draft out of Arizona by the Toronto Raptors and also played for the Trail Blazers, Grizzlies and Spurs. He was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1996.

During his career, Stoudamire averaged 13.4 points, 6.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds.
