Gemini Announces Leadership Shakeup, Cuts 25% Workforce

  • Gemini has further planned to implement separation deals with each official that may permit them to stay on a temporary basis to help with transactions.
  • Gemini Space Station Inc. will stop operations in the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Australia, the company mentioned.

An American cryptocurrency exchange, Gemini, revealed plans for a leadership reorganisation that will witness three senior officials go off as the firm shrinks its geographic focus and aims for cost reductions, as per a regulatory filing released on February 17.

The officials who will leave the office effective from Feb 17 are Chief Operating Officer Marshall Beard, Chief Financial Officer Dan Chen and Chief Legal Officer Tyler Meade, as mentioned in the Form 8-K of the company.

Gemini has further planned to implement separation deals with each official that may permit them to stay on a temporary basis to help with transactions, and at that time, they will get a base salary and benefits without extra bonuses or incentive compensation.

Marshall Beard also resigned from the board of directors of the firm on Tuesday. The filing mentioned that his departure wasn’t associated with any difference over operations, policies or practices. Adding further, Gemini also publicised a round of layoffs at the beginning of this month.

The Further Management

The chief operating officer’s position will not be filled by the company. Cameron Winklevoss, the co-founder, will look after many of Beard’s responsibilities, comprising revenue-associated duties, as per the filing.

The board designated Chief Accounting Officer Danijela Stojanovic as interim CFO, and Kate Freedman, who currently serves as associate general counsel and corporate secretary, will serve as interim general counsel.

James Seyffart posted on X, referring to the changes as a “big shakeup” following the publication of the filing. The leadership changes go with wider operational reorganisation publicised earlier this month.

Gemini Space Station Inc. will stop operations in the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Australia, the company mentioned. The company also revealed that the workforce will be reduced by around 25% to reduce costs and concentrate on main priorities.

Company management hinted that growth in various countries made operational complexity and increased expenses. As Gemini functions in over 60 countries, demand in some areas proved insufficient to back increased growth, as per the executives.

Future operations will mainly focus on the U.S., which management recognised as the firm’s strongest market.
