Gate Secures Malta PSD2 License, Strengthening EU Strategy

  • Gate secures MFSA license, enabling expansion of fiat and stablecoin payment services across EU.
  • PSD2 approval strengthens Gate’s MiCA-compliant European strategy.
  • Gate leverages Malta hub and global licenses to ensure growth, compliance, and innovation.

Gate has officially obtained a Payment Institution license from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), a key regulatory milestone. This license, issued under the EU’s Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), enables Gate to expand its fiat and stablecoin payment services across the European Union. By securing this approval, Gate strengthens its position as a bridge between traditional finance and Web3 infrastructure.

The Malta-based entity, Gate Technology Ltd., now joins a select group of crypto-native companies in Europe with full regulatory recognition. This development complements Gate’s earlier achievement of a MiCA license in Malta, allowing the company to provide exchange and custody services. Together, these licenses reflect Gate’s commitment to establishing compliant and secure financial solutions in Europe.

Bridging Traditional Finance and Web3

Gate Technology Ltd. CEO, Mr. Giovanni Cunti, emphasized that the new license enables the company to deliver scalable payment solutions across Europe. He highlighted the importance of aligning services with MiCA regulations while creating a seamless connection between legacy finance and digital assets. Consequently, institutional and retail clients can now rely on Gate for efficient and secure transactions within the evolving European crypto ecosystem.

Besides strengthening regulatory compliance, the license grants Gate passporting rights, enabling the company to offer payment services throughout the EU. This provides a foundation for future innovations, such as integrating fiat, stablecoins, and Web3 applications. Moreover, the approval enhances Gate’s credibility, signaling its readiness to operate transparently within Europe’s increasingly regulated crypto market.

Strategic Focus on Global Compliance

Malta has become a strategic hub for Gate’s European operations, thanks to its transparent regulatory framework. Gate’s global compliance strategy extends to multiple jurisdictions, including Cyprus, the Bahamas, Japan, Australia, and Dubai. Significantly, these regulatory achievements create a consistent framework that supports both long-term growth and innovation across the company’s international operations.

Additionally, Gate’s new license positions the company to lead in financial infrastructure development across Europe. By combining traditional finance mechanisms with Web3 solutions, Gate is poised to deliver secure, efficient, and user-friendly services. As regulatory clarity increases under MiCA and PSD2, Gate’s integrated approach offers both stability and scalability in a rapidly evolving market.
