His lawyers argue that it is necessary for the preparation of his defense. Bankman-Fried’s defense team has repeatedly sought to have him temporarily released to review documents before the trial, but the Department of Justice has opposed the move. Bankman-Fried faces multiple charges, including fraud, and could face over 100 years in prison if convicted. Last week, Judge Lewis Kaplan blocked certain witnesses from Bankman-Fried’s trial.
